The 34th winner of the 2000 Guineas, held on Tuesday 26th April 1842 over the Rowley Mile, was Meteor (6/4 fav), a chestnut colt by Velocipede out of Dido, owned by Mr John Bowes, who won by a length, with half a length back to the third. A field of 8 runners contested the race which was worth £1,500 (Equivalent to £143,700 in 2017)
